I graduated with a Bachelor of Art's degree in Psychology, minoring in Sociology from Hiram College in Ohio and a Master's Degree in Counseling from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1994. I received three years of post-graduate training from Philadelphia Child Guidance in Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy. Additionally I have been trained by Dr. Catherine Shear and the staff at the Center for Complicated Grief at the Columbia School of Social Work at Columbia University in New York, completing the Level 2 Training of Complicated Grief Therapy.
My experience includes working with at-risk families, foster children, and providing intensive therapy to children and adults with severe mental illnesses both in the home and inpatient hospital settings. I also provided therapy to less clinical populations including individual and group therapy to students in their high school setting, couples preparing for marriage and those who seek personal development. Additionally, I have supervised and trained Bachelor and Master's level counselors and behavioral support staff as well as facilitated multidisciplinary interagency teams focusing on meeting clients' needs using strengths and community resources.
I am an adoptive mother of three children with speical needs. I am also a widow. I believe that these life experiences enrich my work because I have first-hand knowledge of challenges that some people face. It is my goal to deliver to my clients the same caliber of services that I would hope to receive for my own family members.
When I'm not working or helping kids with homework, I enjoy spending my free time with my family and faithful canine companions, volunteering in my community, in the schools and my church. Exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest is part of my regular routine and no year is complete without at least one trip to the ocean.
