Gera McGuire, MA, NCC, LMHC is a Nationally Certified Counselor, Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor, member of the American Counseling Association and a member of the Washington Mental Health Counselors Association. Gera serves the Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Ravensdale, Enumclaw and Covington areas. She helps people negotiate life's challenges by taking a collaborative, educational approach, partnering with clients to utilize their strengths and resources in addressing their concerns. Individual, group, couples and family counseling services are available and Gera is able to offer workshops and presentations as well.
Gera works with children, adolescents and adults with issues ranging from mild to moderate stressors to those suffering with serious emotional disturbances. Mobile therapy is arranged for clients on a case by case basis for those who are not able to leave their homes due to medical issues.
Gera's specialties include grief counseling, complicated grief, the treatment of depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, anger management, ADHD, relationship problems, divorce and blended family matters, parenting skills, behavioral concerns, attachment, child loss, post-adoption adjustment and bonding, and life transitions. She has experience working with children in the foster care system as well as post-adoption placements. Her clients have included individuals, couples, groups and families in a variety of settings including school, office, home, inpatient hospital and in the community.
Gera is an Approved Supervisor for Licensed Mental Health Counselors in Washington State.
Graduating with her Master's Degree in Counseling in 1994, Gera has over 20 years of experience and training in cognitive-behavioral interventions, group therapy, grief work and ecosystemic structural family therapy. Gera has received training regarding complicated grief at the Columbia University's Center for Complicated Grief in New York City.
Gera is availble for presentations on topics related to grief and loss. She has been a repeat presenter at Camp Widow - San Diego as well as the Seabeck Retreat sponsored by King County Widowed Information and Consultation Services. In the past, Gera offered a grief workshop series for seniors entitled "Good Grief." She is currently advising a child-family grief support group.
